Artwork created for #TigerArtFriday via social media in respect to the Richmond Football Club

Richmond Tigers Digital Art

Ever since I was five years old, I’ve been a diehard Richmond Tigers supporter. And, when Richmond put out a request for supporters to submit artwork they’ve created for #TigerArtFriday on social media, I had no hesitation!

I plan on designing more artwork, but for now I’ve created artwork to respect two of Richmond’s superstars of the last 25 years – Dustin Martin and Matthew Richardson. Dustin is one of (if not) the best AFL players in the league. A two time Premiership player with the Richmond Football Club, two time Norm Smith Medalist, Brownlow Medal winner, multiple All Australian – the list really does go on and on. A midfield / forward, who has brute strength, a penetrating kick and sublime football smarts. Designing artwork based around ‘Dusty’ wasn’t difficult, and I tried to capture the passionate, tattoo-covered yet highly skilled footballer.

Matthew Richardson (commonly known as ‘Richo’) is one of my all time favourite players. Passionate, Richmond through-and-through and the equivalent of a supporter playing on the ground. Kicking 800 goals, a record for the AFL, at the MCG is a highlight for this power forward turned midfielder later in his career, where he nearly won the Brownlow medal. Consistently winning the Richmond goal kicking award, Richo doesn’t have all the medals that Dusty has, but Richo was prolific in building the Richmond culture, when the club was on its knees. And, in 2017 when he had the honor of presenting the premiership cup to Trent Cotchin and Damien Hardwick, every Richmond supporter felt that Richo deserved to be recognised in that team as much as the players involved.

So, my design tribute to these players is a gesture of a large part of my life. Sport and fitness plays such a large roll, and supporting Richmond has been something that has stood out for me as a life highlight, on a personal level. I’d like to continue to design more in the future, so watch this space!
